ENLARGED PROSTATE (BPH)
In healthy young men, the prostate is quite small, about the size of a walnut, which allows plenty of room for the urethra to be its normal size. As men get older, many will experience Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH). Due to excess cell growth, the prostate enlarges and begins to squeeze the urethra and block urine flow.
BPH affects more than half of 50 year old men and more than 80% of 80 year old men. Symptoms include frequent urination at night, weak urine flow, and inability to empty the bladder completely. If left untreated, the condition can result in bladder stones, poor kidney function, and infection.
Gary C. Bellman, M.D. has treated thousands of men, BPH being a common symptom that he treats in his Urology practice. Dr. Bellman has over 20 years of experience and will put you at ease, offering great care and options to best suit your comfortability.
