PREMATURE EJACULATION

Premature Ejaculation (PE) affects millions of men and essentially occurs when a man ejaculates before he or his partner would like. It is incredibly common, affecting nearly every man at some point in his life. Unfortunately, it can take a toll on a man’s self-confidence, and self-esteem, so it’s important to tell your urologist if PE is causing you stress, anxiety, or depression.

CAUSES OF PREMATURE EJACULATION

The exact cause of PE may vary from man to man. It may be due to an emotional or mental cause or may result from a physical condition.

Biological or physical causes of PE may include thyroid problems, erectile dysfunction, hormone imbalances, prostatitis, or a previous injury or nerve damage.

TYPES OF TREATMENT FOR PREMATURE EJACULATION

Treatment for PE may include both psychological therapy, behavioral therapy, and/or medications.

Behavioral therapy to treat PE can involve specific exercises, which are designed to build tolerance, and thereby delay ejaculation. Exercises may involve stopping and starting sexual stimulation prior to ejaculation, to increase control.

Medical options for premature ejaculation may include the application of a topical spray such as Promescent. You may also consider using more lube, or a condom, both of which may decrease sensitivity, thus delaying ejaculation.
