PROSTATE CANCER SCREENING

Screening for prostate cancer is currently done with DRE (digital rectal exam-prostate exam) and a PSA (prostatic specific antigen-blood test). If these are concerning, a biopsy is considered. There has been much research and interest in avoiding biopsies, as it can be somewhat painful and have risks of infection, although the risks are actually very low. Currently, a prostate biopsy is the only way to tell if a man has prostate cancer.
