REZUM THERAPY – STUDIES SHOW LASTING RELIEF FROM ENLARGED PROSTATE SYMPTOMS
According to several studies released in the Journal of Urology, published between 2016-2020, men aged 50+ who underwent non-surgical Rezum Therapy to treat an enlarged prostate experienced the following:
- Significant improvement within 3 months of lower urinary tract symptoms
- Effective symptom relief and improved quality of life that remained durable for 4 years post-procedure.
Another clinical study extended symptom relief and improved quality of life to 5 years. Still other studies have found Rezum Therapy benefits to include:
- Eliminates the need for BPH medication
- Preserves sexual function
- Allows for the return to normal activities within a few days
WHAT TO EXPECT DURING REZUM THERAPY PROCEDURE
Unlike oral medications to treat enlarged prostate, Rezum Therapy treats the cause, rather than the symptoms. During this in-office procedure, a local anesthesia will be given. Then, sterile water vapor (steam) is injected into the prostate. It destroys the excess prostate tissue. Your body then reabsorbs this tissue, opening the urinary tube, so that urine can flow freely, without being squeezed or restricted.
The entire process takes just a few minutes, though you should plan on spending a couple of hours at the office for prep, for monitoring after the procedure, and for receiving post-treatment instructions.
Rezum Water Vapor Therapy is FDA approved and included in the American Urological Association Guidelines. This non-surgical procedure is covered by most insurance, including Medicare.
