The UroLift System is an advanced, revolutionary treatment for men suffering from an enlarged prostate, also known as BPH. The UroLift System requires no cutting, heating, or removal of prostate tissue.

UROLIFT CENTER OF EXCELLENCE: SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA UROLOGY INSTITUTE

In 2020 Dr. Gary Bellman’s Southern California Urology Institute was named a UroLift Center for Excellence. The designation recognizes that Dr. Bellman has achieved a high level of training and experience with the UroLift System and demonstrated a commitment to exemplary care for men suffering from symptoms associated with BPH, also known as enlarged prostate.

HOW DOES THE UROLIFT SYSTEM TREAT ENLARGED PROSTATE?

The UroLift System treats BPH by lifting and holding enlarged prostate tissue so that it is no longer blocking the urethra. It is the only FDA cleared treatment that uses the Prostatic Urethral Lift (PUL) procedure.

Before the procedure, you will be given local anesthesia. The UroLift Delivery Device is then placed through the urethra, to gain access to the prostate. Then tiny implants are placed to hold the excess tissue back, which is responsible for blocking the urethra. The Delivery Device is then removed, leaving the urethra unobstructed and reducing symptoms of BPH.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF THE UROLIFT SYSTEM FOR BPH?

The UroLift System procedure is a safe and simple treatment option that offers rapid symptom relief for men suffering from BPH. Unique benefits of the UroLift System include:

  • Can be done in an office setting
  • Typically does not require an overnight stay
  • Typically does not require catheter use post-procedure
  • Preserves sexual function
  • No cutting, heating, or removal of prostate tissue

The UroLift procedure provides an excellent level of symptom relief (compared with other BPH procedures), with fewer side effects.

SIDE EFFECTS OF UROLIFT FOR ENLARGED PROSTATE

All medical procedures have some risk of side effects. The majority are mild and may include temporary burning during urination, blood in the urine, urgent need to urinate, pelvic pain, and incontinence. In men who do experience side effects, most resolve within a few weeks.

IS THE UROLIFT PROCEDURE PAINFUL?

The UroLift procedure is typically done under local anesthesia but may be performed under general anesthesia for patients that prefer a general. The process generally takes less than one hour. Most men report minimal discomfort.

Will the UroLift System Help My Enlarged Prostate? Men over the age of 45, who are experiencing unpleasant or disruptive symptoms of an enlarged prostate are typically good candidates for the UroLift procedure. If you are allergic to titanium, stainless steel, or nickel, talk to your urologist before scheduling the procedure.

The goal of the UroLift System for men with an enlarged prostate is to relieve symptoms so you can get back to your life and resume your daily activities. Patients who do not want to start or continue their BPH medication, or patients who do not want to undergo major surgery, may consider the UroLift procedure as an alternative.
