Read on to learn more about the No-Needle, No-Scalpel Vasectomy procedure performed by specialist Dr. Gary Bellman, MD.

HOW IS A NO-NEEDLE, NO-SCALPEL VASECTOMY PERFORMED?

The no-needle, no-scalpel vasectomy is a quick procedure, typically lasting less than 30 minutes. Topical, spray-on anesthesia (instead of an injected anesthesia) is applied to numb the nerves.

Then, instead of using a scalpel, tiny microsurgical instruments are used to spread the skin and make a tiny opening, allowing access to the vas deferens. The vas deferens are the tubes that carry semen from your testicles. The vas deferens are then cut and cauterized and placed back in the scrotum without making an incision to the skin.

HOW LONG DOES A NO-SCALPEL VASECTOMY TAKE?

The no-needle, no-scalpel vasectomy generally takes less than 30 minutes but varies depending on your specific situation.

HOW EFFECTIVE IS A NO NEEDLE NO SCALPEL VASECTOMY?

The no-needle, no-scalpel vasectomy is one of the most reliable forms of birth control. With a failure rate of less than 1% (compared to condoms at 12%), vasectomies are effective for the overwhelming majority of men.

It should be noted that you won’t be immediately sterile. This is because active sperm can remain in your semen for several weeks. So you will need to use a backup form of birth control until you are told that your semen is free of sperm.

DOES A NO NEEDLE NO SCALPEL VASECTOMY HURT?

A no-needle, no-scalpel vasectomy is relatively painless for most men. One of the benefits of the no needle, no scalpel vasectomy is that there is virtually no damage or injury to any surrounding tissue.

Most men return to completely normal activities within a couple of days. It’s best to avoid manual or hard physical labor for a week.

NO NEEDLE NO SCALPEL VASECTOMY BENEFITS

Benefits of the NO NEEDLE NO SCALPEL Vasectomy include the safety of the procedure. Vasectomies were always safe procedures, but the no needle, no scalpel procedure has made them even safer.

Because there are no incisions, there is less risk of infection, a faster recovery time, less bruising, and scarring. The procedure itself is less painful than traditional vasectomies, and discomfort following the vasectomy is also minimal.

IS A VASECTOMY RIGHT FOR ME?

A no-needle, no-scalpel vasectomy is a safe, effective, long-term birth control method. As a relatively painless process, with a short recovery time, most men are candidates for this procedure. You must understand that vasectomies are meant to be permanent. So although vasectomy reversals work for some men, there is no guarantee that a reversal will work, if you decide you want more children later in life.
